God these training days are so long. I find myself exhausted, hungry and grumpy by the end of them. It's several hours of Dagbani, then several hours of math training lessons. Top that with the fact that my 2 sites are about 30 min - 1 hr apart depending on taxi fill rates (waiting for enough people for the driver to leave) and factor in that my homestay mom wants me home every day for lunch, and that leaves me running around dehydrated and late everywhere.
But it's not all bad, and you can always find refuge in the people here. Imagine this: I'm in a taxi on my way home yesterday. I had the longest day ever. I'm exhausted and grumpy. I'm sitting shotgun in the taxi, it's packed with people behind me. All of a sudden I feel someone tug the back of my hair gently. Feeling it. I do a family guy style awkward turn of my head. Slowly turn to face the person behind me with a scowl on my face. I see an older black woman wearing a huge smile. Scowl still intact I bring my hand around and pull her hair as well. My friends in the cab feel so awkward they dont even know what to do with themselves.
She busts out laughing and so does her friend. I start laughing as well and say "whatever! you pull my hair, I'm gonna pull yours..." and she says as she touches my hair again "Efe" (EH-feh). "Efe, is beautiful, very nice."
They LOVE white people hair here...
