Finally flying over Ghana. It's interesting to see small towns popping up out of the middle of the rainforest. Had breakfast, landed, and got off the plane. Holy wow this country redefines hot and humid. Miami (and king kong) dont got nothing on Ghana.
Walking out of the airport we were greeted by a welcoming committee :) It's the most dignified reception I've ever had. Police stopped traffic and we were escorted hassle-free to our busses. I didnt notice but scott (another PCV) told me we were cutting people off and people were yielding to us cuz of our diplomatic plates. AParantly it's very respected over here. (*Note, since I've written this entry we've done drives like this again, and sure enough we cut people off without shame, and offroad it to pass people...)
Took the tro-tro's (small busses) to the PC office where we got fresh coconuts and pineapple. The pineapple was amazing. I wonder where the nearest taco bell is? Afterwards we took a tour of the city. It's amazing. The things people sell on their heads here is incredible. I'd like to get at least one good picture before we go.
I've been fighting off sleep all day... no sleep on the plane and we've been doing forms and tours all day. Every time they give me more than a 10 min break I pass out in my chair.
Went to the health office where I met my doctor. She gave me my shots and a baggie full of: sunscreen, malaria pills, bug spray, and in her own words (keep in mind this is my official peace corps medical officer, PCMO) "condoms in case you get lucky this weekend" ...hahaha I think i'm gonna like it here...
From here we took a 1 hr tro ride to valley view university, college for women. This will be our quarters for the next few days. Their school is out of session so we have plenty of rooms for everyone. Later that night I broke out the frisbee and played some ultimate. Feels sooo good to run around again.
Now to much needed sleep...
