Woke up feeling much better today. Fever is only at 101F (which feels about 1,000 times better than it sounds compared to the previous temps). I had a small breakfast and headed to school. My stomach was killing me with cramps and nausea but I figured I'd shut it up with some pepto. Taught a good lesson to Ama's JHS Form 1 class which consisted of Light: Shadows and Eclipses.
My eclipse demonstration was comprised of: a small mag-light, an orange I stole from the peace corps training site's tree on my way to class, and a Beer Pong Ball. That's right, my drunken excursions and JHS classroom science experiments utilize the same props. Julie was quick to point out that my BeerPong Balls are actually ping-pong balls. I told her she was entitled to her opinion as long as she didnt tell my BeerPong Balls that. I dont want her messing up their self-confidence.
But all of that aside, the lesson went extremely well. I utilized volunteers to help with my experiment. One exceptional young student, who's always on top of whatever I'm teaching was Mr. Sun, and 2 girls in the back who wouldn't shut up, utilizing my "mandatory volunteering" method, were Mrs. Moon and Mrs. Earth. Mrs. Earth held her orange in place while Mr. Sun shined his light. The class laughed and whispered and giggled... but they were all on the edges of their seats with attention.
I made Mrs. Moon revolve her "Multi-Purpose Ball" around the orange and we showed different eclipses and how theyre formed. The class loved it. I had them give my volunteers a clap, Clap-Clap. Clap-Clap-Clap. Clap! ,and they sat down.
After class I sat down with my collaborating Ghanaian teacher and received feedback on my presentation. With a lot of energy drained and not having enough water taken in I began to drop fast and as soon as he was done I excused myself and went home. I had a small lunch with 2 pure waters (the water sachets), and jumped into bed. My nausea and cramps had come back bad again.
To add to my parade of visitors, Suf, my language trainer stopped by to check on me. I slept the rest of the day after his visit. I made it through 1/2 a day today with no problems. Let's shoot for a full one tomorrow.
