But today. Today is the 4th of July! We're all far from home, and none of us can remember the last time we missed a 4th, so I made sure we celebrated the best we could in Ghana. (You know how much I hate planning events). I talked with Uncle Bob, the "For You" owner, and organized a surprise for the group...
At the Peace Corps provided breakfasts many times they gave us "sausages" which tasted nothing like breakfast sausages but exactly like something else I'd had many times at Quartermania. So I did some research, told Bob where he could find said "sausages" and oh yea... you better believe we had grilled hot-dogs on the 4th.
Complete with delicious rolls and Heinz Tomato Ketchup (Brand name. boeyey!), Bob outdid himself and the event was a huge hit.
Manish had some patriotic music on his computer. I took that, bought and burned a CD, Gretchen had an American Flag towel and Katie had her family send sparklers.
(Us literally singing the national anthem)
Beer, grilled hot-dogs with ketchup, the national anthem playing in the background, an American Flag, sparklers, and dont forget Beer Pong, and it totally brought home to Ghana.
As Forrest Gump said "I musta drank me 15 Doctor Peppers." I seriously ate like 7 hot-dogs. Which is a good think too cuz bob provided 80 of them for our group of about 20-25.
The WATSAN people went to the Northern Region and Hannah (My beer pong partner) made them all chili, but I'm pretty sure we had more fun.
What an amazing night.
Hell. Yes.
